Target plan

Create, view, edit, and delete a target plan.

A target plan is a container for one or more metrics you want to track, scoped to a slice of your data: a region, a flow, or a campaign.

This page covers the plan itself. Attaching metrics and setting their targets is in Plan metrics.

A plan groups everything you need to track a goal: the metrics, the time frame, the granularity, and the scope. Filters let “EU Revenue” and “Global Revenue” be separate plans that track the same metric on different audiences.

Play

Creating a plan opens the New Plan dialog. Name the plan, pick a Dataset, choose the period and granularity, then add the metrics you want to track. You need at least one metric to save the plan.

The Dataset decides which data feeds your metrics. Campaigns and Subscribers are the common ones — Campaigns for per-campaign performance, Subscribers for changes to your subscriber list. Which datasets you see, and which metrics each one holds, depends on your workspace’s data sources. The Dataset can’t be changed once the plan is created.

The Date field picks the date SEINō counts an event by.

  • Send date — counts an event on the day the email was sent.
  • Event date — counts it on the day the event happened.

Send date is the default when available. See the FAQ for when to pick which.

Granularity sets how the plan splits into periods on the chart and table.

  • Week — one period per week. Short-term changes are visible on the chart.
  • Month — one period per month. Short-term changes are averaged into a longer trend.

Pick the one that matches how you report progress. Granularity can be changed later from the plan’s Edit dialog.

Every plan appears in the Targets list, where you can filter by status (Running, Inactive). Click any plan to open its detail view, which shows the metric cards, the pacing charts, and a table with a row for each period.

From a plan’s detail view, open the Plan menu (top-right) and choose Edit plan…. You can update the title, date range, granularity, or filters. The Dataset can’t be changed once the plan is created. Past values stay tied to their original dates, so the chart adjusts to fit the new period.

From the plan detail view, open the Plan menu and choose Remove plan. This removes the plan, its targets, and any dashboard widgets linked to it, for everyone in the workspace. The source data stays in place. Anyone with the plan URL bookmarked sees a “Plan not found” page.

When should I use Event date instead of Send date?

The two answer different questions.

Send date measures your sending strategy. A campaign sent in June counts for June even if opens happen in July — good for judging whether the plan worked.

Event date measures activity. An open on 1 July counts for July, whatever month the campaign was sent — good for reporting what happened in the period.

Who can see a plan?

Everyone in the workspace. Plans, their metrics, and their targets are shared across the workspace, not tied to a single user. Anyone with access to the workspace sees every plan you create.

Can I change the Dataset after creating a plan?

No. The Dataset is fixed at creation because it controls which data feeds the metrics. To track the same metric on a different source, create a new plan.
