What the Subscriber widget tracks, when to reach for its card or tab mode, and how its in, out, and growth numbers read
A Subscriber widget tracks the growth of one or more subscriber lists on a dashboard: how large a list is, and how it grew or shrank over time. It shows list growth rate the way marketers read it, the net change and the members who joined and left, so you can see whether an audience is growing or churning. It needs the subscriber-list dataset, so it shows only in workspaces that have it, in two modes: a card and a set of tabs.
Choosing a display mode
Section titled “Choosing a display mode”The two modes answer different questions, and you pick one when you add the widget. A card follows a single list, its headline numbers over one chart; a set of tabs holds several lists at once, one tab each, to compare them without a widget per list. Both read the same data over the dashboard’s date range.
A card follows one list. It shows the four headline numbers (total membership, the net change, and the members in and out) above one chart: bars for members in and out each interval, and a line for total membership. Use it when a list matters enough to hold its own tile, visible the moment the dashboard loads.
A set of tabs holds several lists in one tile, one tab each. The open tab shows that list’s four numbers beside two charts: one for members in and out, one for total membership over time. It’s a fuller read than the card’s single chart. Use it to keep related lists together, a newsletter and its segments, without a tile each.
How the numbers read
Section titled “How the numbers read”Every list, in either mode, reports the same four numbers over the dashboard’s date range:
- Total: the list’s membership at the end of the range.
- Delta: the net change across the range, members in minus out. It carries the list’s growth rate for the period (the delta against the membership at the start), coloured green when the list grew, red when it shrank.
- In: the members who joined the list during the range.
- Out: the members who left it, whether they unsubscribed or were removed.
In the charts, in and out show as diverging bars (in above the line, out below), with total membership as a line across them, so churn and size read together.
Set up the widget
Section titled “Set up the widget”Unlike the other widgets, the Subscriber widget is set up by choosing lists, not metrics: its four numbers are fixed, and you pick which lists it follows. A card takes one list; the tab mode takes several, dragged into tab order. Either way it reads the dashboard’s date range. Opening and saving the editor work as for any widget. See the Dashboards page.
